About This Coin
The 1936 Philippine Fifty Centavos is a United States cent from the Philippines Fifty Centavos 1903-1945 series — a late issue, 13th of 15 years in the series. In 1936, coins were struck at the M Mint. The obverse features a female figure standing beside an anvil, similar to but larger than the twenty centavos and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield. Struck during the Great Depression, when mintages dropped sharply and the United States abandoned the gold standard in 1933. Struck in silver. A notable auction result reached $2.3K in MS66 grade at Stack's Bowers. Designed by Melecio Figueroa.
