Description
The 1936-M Philippine Fifty Centavos Murphy-Quezon was struck at the Manila Mint and carries an M mint mark on the reverse, to the left of the date. This fifty centavos was struck in 1936 for the founding of the Commonwealth of the Philippines on November 15, 1935. Ambrosio Morales designed it: on the obverse the facing busts of Frank Murphy, the last Governor-General and then High Commissioner, and Manuel L. Quezon, the first President of the Commonwealth; on the reverse the Commonwealth arms that went onto every regular Philippine coin from 1937. It keeps the 10-gram, 75 percent silver standard of the circulating fifty centavos. The recorded mintage is 20,000. Catalogue numbers: KM-176. PCGS number 90409.
