1936 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-014

Description

Adolph Weinman's Mercury (Winged Liberty Head) dime design provides several fine obverse elements where hub doubling becomes detectable, and this 1936 WDDO-014 displays a spread to the center on the date, the designer's initials, and IN GOD WE TRUST. Obverse die markers include a die crack running from the rim to the left of the T in LIBERTY into the wing on the bonnet, along with a die scratch running SSW/NNE northwest of the designer's initials. On the reverse, a small die gouge can be found above the right side of the M in DIME. Cross-referenced as 1936 10¢ WDDO-014 and attributed by the Wexler Team. The die crack into the winged bonnet serves as a particularly useful identification aid, as this prominent structural feature allows collectors to quickly screen potential specimens before examining the date and motto under higher magnification for the centered hub doubling. Weinman's initials, positioned on the obverse near Liberty's shoulder, are among the smaller affected elements requiring careful inspection.
