Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team, the 1936 Mercury Dime WDDO-011 displays a spread directed toward the center on the date, the designer's initials, and IN GOD WE TRUST — a convergent doubling pattern where the secondary hub impression is positioned slightly inward from the primary, causing design elements to appear to shift toward the coin's center. Center-directed spreads result from specific hub alignment conditions during die manufacture and produce a distinctive inward-leaning effect on affected design elements. Two diagnostic die markers assist with attribution: on the obverse, parallel die scratches run northwest from the top of the G in GOD, and on the reverse, several die scratches run parallel to the right side of the lower fasces — the bundled rods that form a central element of Adolph A. Weinman's Mercury Dime reverse design. The eleventh documented doubled die obverse for the 1936 date, this variety carries no other known cross-references beyond the Wexler designation.
