Description
Tracked in the VarietyVista catalog as UVC-1360 (DMR-027), DDR-014 of the 1936 Lincoln Wheat Cent exhibits a light spread on UNUM and on the outside of the right wheat ear — two reverse design elements positioned in different quadrants of the die, confirming that the hub displacement affected a meaningful portion of the reverse face. Three die stages document the working die's service history: Stage A in early die state, Stage B where both the obverse and reverse reach mid-die state, and Stage C in late die state. The progression through all three stages indicates this die saw extended use in production, and collectors may encounter specimens ranging from sharp early impressions to softer late-state strikes. The 1936 Philadelphia Mint issue was produced in substantial quantities during the mid-Depression era, yet individual die varieties like DDR-014 remain relatively scarce because each working die represented only a fraction of the total mintage. Light doubling on the wheat ear is best observed along the outer edges of the grain lines, where the secondary image separates from the primary design, while UNUM provides a straightforward text-based confirmation point.
