1934-D VAM-1A

Description

The 1934-D Peace Dollar VAM-1A combines two distinguishing characteristics: a micro D mint mark on the reverse and vertical die gouges below the G in GOD on the obverse (die III 1/B2a). The obverse features a vertical shallow die gouge below G and a short vertical gouge below the left side of G — the same obverse die also paired in VAM-2A, indicating multiple die marriages from this obverse. With an I-2 interest level and R-5 rarity rating, VAM-1A documents one of the final die varieties produced in the original Peace Dollar series, as 1934 marked the last year of regular production before the series was discontinued. The micro D mint mark — noticeably smaller than the standard size — distinguishes a subset of 1934-D dies and is itself a collectible feature. Denver Mint Peace Dollars from the final year hold particular appeal for date-set collectors, and VAM-1A's distinctive obverse die gouges combined with the micro D provide clear diagnostic markers for attribution.
