Description

Listed as WDDR-001 in the Wexler catalog and cross-referenced as VAM 7, this 1934-D Peace Dollar displays clear hub doubling on the reverse with the primary spread visible on the AR of DOLLAR and a strong secondary spread on the rays above the LLAR portion of DOLLAR. The concentration of doubling on the lettering and rays in the DOLLAR area indicates that the hub displacement between impressions was most pronounced in that zone of the reverse die. On the reverse die, light die scratches crisscross the area between E PLURIBUS UNUM and the eagle, while a die gouge runs from the E to the E of PEACE, providing reliable die markers for confirming attribution beyond the doubling itself.
