Description

For the fair's second season the Travel and Transport medal was reissued as HK-474a, with "Worlds Fair" and "1933 - Chicago - 1934" under the building in place of the single 1933 date of HK-474. Its reverse is the reworked good-luck die also found on HK-469a, horseshoe, clover and wishbone with a differently shaped shoe. The piece is gilt and 32 mm, a millimeter smaller than the first edition. Chicago's Century of Progress ran for two summers, May 27 to November 12 in 1933 and 1934, and Hibler and Kappen rank it as the country's second largest exposition; it was also the only international one to pay off its debts and its bondholders and still close with a surplus.
