Seven names fill the reverse of HK-437, one to a line beneath a small scroll and above the date 1917: Marshal Joffre and A. J. Balfour, the two heads of mission, along with M. Rene Viviani, Lord Cunliffe, a major general named Bridges and two vice-admirals, Chocheprat and De Chair. Around them runs "Struck to Commemorate the Visit to the United States of Officials of Our Allies." They were the French and British missions that came in the spring of 1917, a few weeks after the United States entered World War I, to speed the war effort with President Wilson; their stop in New York on the way to Washington turned into a celebration. Thomas L. Elder made the medal, putting the Continental currency's Confederation altar design on the obverse. HK-437 is brass, 38 mm, DeLorey 94.
