Description

The Travel and Transport building of Chicago's Century of Progress appears on the obverse of HK-474, an ornate modern structure with its name above and "A Century of Progress Chicago 1933" set beneath. The reverse borrows the good-luck die of the 1933 Hall of Science piece, HK-469: a horseshoe holding a four-leaf clover, a wishbone below and "Keep Me for Good Luck" around. Architecture at the fair was meant to work honestly, with a dozen major palaces and some 200 other buildings depending on simple surfaces, color and light rather than ornament. The HK listing gives it in gilt at 33 mm; a 1934 edition with a slightly smaller flan and revised dates is HK-474a.
