Description

Made for the exposition's second year, HK-469a changes the lettering under the Hall of Science to "Worlds Fair" and "1933 - Chicago - 1934," where the first edition (HK-469) gave 1933 alone. Its reverse again shows horseshoe, four-leaf clover and wishbone with the plea to be kept for luck, but Hibler and Kappen point to a differently shaped horseshoe and other small changes in the die. The Century of Progress reopened for 1934 and once more ran from late May to mid-November on its lakefront site in Chicago's southside parks. The exposition company, chartered in 1930, raised its money from bonds sold to the public and asked for no government subsidy. The piece is gilt and 32 mm, and the Travel and Transport medal HK-474a uses the same reverse.
