1923 (D) Peace Dollar - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1923-D WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1923-D Peace dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. Strong doubling, spread to the east, appears on the olive branch and leaves and the rays crossing them, on the rays left of the eagle's lower back, on the leg feathers, and inside the eagle's beak. On the obverse, a crack follows the base of the bust, several SW/NE scratches cross RU in TRUST, the head's top is joined to LIBERTY's Y by a crack, and from the R's bottom a crack heads WSW to one of the tiara's spikes. Wexler notes no reverse markers. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Its VAM number is #3, and it is also listed as TH-DDR-001. Wexler notes that Brian Allen took the photos for the Wexler files. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
