Description

Discovered by Robert Maxey in January 1981, the 1922-S Peace Dollar VAM-2 is classified as II 1, B2a (Normal Die), rarity I-1 R-1, making it the most common die marriage for this date. As a normal die variety, VAM-2 represents the baseline die marriage against which other 1922-S varieties are compared. Since VAMs are organized by die classifications, the so-called normal dies may encompass more than one die pair sharing the same general characteristics, and not all specimens will display identical minor features such as clash marks. The B2a reverse type indicates a standard reverse die configuration for this Peace Dollar issue. The I-1 R-1 rarity rating confirms this as a readily available variety, and collectors building complete VAM sets will encounter this die marriage frequently in the marketplace.
