1919 (S) Standing Liberty Quarter - Type I Counter Clash CCLTI-25C-1919S-01

Description

CCL(TI)-25c-1919S-01 is a Type I counter clash on a 1919-S Standing Liberty quarter, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes, which reports it as the first Type I counter clash it has seen in the series. The E of E PLURIBUS UNUM is clashed beside Liberty's right knee. Two offset clash events took place: the folds of Liberty's gown are clashed through the US of PLURIBUS, one event passing through the U and the other through the S. The second event carried the E, by then an accidental feature on the obverse die, back onto the reverse. The gap between the original E and the transferred one matches the spacing of the gown folds in PLURIBUS. Jerry Beech owns the coin, and all images are courtesy of James Wiles.
