Description

ADC-50c-1917-01 This 1917 Walking Liberty half dollar shows an exceptionally strong obverse and reverse die clash. The images above of the obverse die show portions of the letters AM – RIC from the word AMERICA. The field area between the word AMERICA and the wing of the eagle can be seen as a raised anomaly passing through the left sandal of Liberty, into the words TRUST and GOD and up to the TY of LIBERTY. This die clash is classified as a vertically misaligned die clash (conventional) or tilted die clash. The image below shows the clash mark left by the area between the eagles right leg and wing. This is the second and weaker die clash event that occurred. LINK to Coin World article The images above of the reverse die show the U of TRUST (top arrow), the D of GOD (middle arrow) and the leg of the Y in LIBERTY (bottom arrow) clashed into the reverse die. Part of  the field by the bottom of Liberty’s robe can be seen clashed into the field behind the eagle’s head.
