Description
A Gold Double Eagle from the Denver Mint, the 1911 (D) St. Gaudens Double Eagle belongs to the St. Gaudens Double Eagles 1907-1933 series. The Denver Mint struck 846,500 double eagles dated 1911. The obverse features Liberty striding forward holding a torch and olive branch, with rays of sunlight behind her, and the reverse displays a flying eagle with the rising sun behind it. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 33.44 grams, 34 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9158.
