1909 Lincoln Wheat Cent - VDB - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-017

Description

1909 WDDR-017 is a doubled die reverse on the 1909 V.D.B. Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A close Class II spread toward the center affects the lower left wheat ear and its grains, the left wheat stem and, slightly, the upper right wheat ear. Obverse Stage A: a short crack follows the base of the bust to the SE, beginning a little west of the vest's last fold. On Obverse Stage B the crack is much heavier and reaches the rim. Reverse Stage A, on the V.D.B. reverse: a cluster of light scratches between the bottoms of the E and N in CENT, and a series of west-east scratches joining most of the letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM. On Reverse Stage B the scratches through the motto have nearly disappeared, while those between the lower EN of CENT remain visible. Timothy J. Wissert submitted Stage A and John A. Wexler Stage B.
