Description

From the inaugural year of the Lincoln Wheat Cent, this 1909 VDDR-047 is a doubled die reverse with catalog codes pending assignment. Light spread is visible on TE of UNITED, F of OF, TA of STATES, and M of AMERICA — affecting scattered letters across the reverse legend rather than concentrating on a single word. The die progression tracks three stages: Stage A at early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B showing a die crack from the upper right wheat lines to the rim at early-to-mid die state with the obverse also at EMDS, and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). This variety appears on reverse design varieties RDV-002 (deep cut N, V.D.B.) and RDV-001 (shallow cut N, V.D.B.) — the 1909 reverses bearing Victor David Brenner's initials, which were famously removed mid-production after public controversy. Cataloged by VarietyVista.
