Description

An unusual catalog entry from the first year of the Lincoln Wheat Cent, the 1909 VDDR-024 shows light spread on the TE of UNITED, the F of OF, the TA of STATES, and the M of AMERICA. Carrying provisional designations UVC-???? and DMR-0?? indicating formal assignment is pending, this variety has a dual reverse die variety designation: RDV-004 (deep cut N, no V.D.B.) and RDV-003 (shallow cut N, no V.D.B.). Three die stages are recorded, but with an unusual progression where the obverse and reverse stages are out of sync: Stage A pairs a reverse at EDS with an obverse at MDS, Stage B advances the reverse to MDS while the obverse reaches LDS, and Stage C shows the reverse at an unconfirmed LDS with the obverse resetting to EDS. This is listed as a generic entry for coins exhibiting a single die stage difference between the reverse and obverse dies. The non-V.D.B. designation places this on the more common reverse type of the 1909 Lincoln Cent.
