1909 VDDR VDDR-019
Error
Description
One of numerous 1909 Lincoln Wheat Cent doubled die reverses sharing a common hub doubling origin, VDDR-019 is distinguished from its siblings by a unique die crack running north-south from the shoulder to the rim. The shared doubling pattern produces light spread visible on the TE of UNITED, the F of OF, the TA of STATES, and the M of AMERICA. The reverse die has been identified with both RDV-004 (deep-cut N, no V.D.B.) and RDV-003 (shallow-cut N, no V.D.B.) designations. Stage B shows mid-die state characteristics with the diagnostic north-south die crack developing from the shoulder area toward the rim, progressing into late die state as the crack extends. Because many 1909 VDDRs share identical hub doubling from a single master hub impression, the individual die cracks and markers on each working die become the primary means of distinguishing one variety from another. The shoulder-to-rim crack on VDDR-019 is its defining characteristic, running vertically through the design and providing an unmistakable identification point that separates it from other members of this hub-doubled family.
