1909 VDDR VDDR-013
Error
Description
From the inaugural year of Victor David Brenner's Lincoln Cent, this doubled die reverse shows light spread on TE of UNITED, F of OF, TA of STATES, and M of AMERICA. What makes VDDR-013 notable is its four-stage die progression. Stage A is early die state, unconfirmed. Stage B shows a die crack from the upper right wheat grains to the rim at mid-die state, with a matching obverse condition. Stage C documents a crack from the lower left wheat grains to the rim at late-mid die state. Stage D is late die state, unconfirmed. The UVC and DMR codes remain pending. The reverse exists in two design variants: RDV-002 with a deep-cut N and V.D.B. initials, and RDV-001 with a shallow-cut N and V.D.B. — a master die distinction predating this working die's own doubling. Cataloged by VarietyVista, this 1909 Philadelphia cent connects die variety research to the very first Lincoln Cents produced.
