Description
The 1907 St. Gaudens Double Eagle is a Gold Double Eagle produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the St. Gaudens Double Eagles 1907-1933 series. With a mintage of 361,667, this is a scarce issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 97% of production. The obverse features Liberty striding forward holding a torch and olive branch, with rays of sunlight behind her — widely considered the most beautiful U.S. coin design and the reverse displays a flying eagle with the rising sun behind it. First year includes extremely rare Ultra High Relief (originally "Extremely High Relief") versions requiring multiple strikes, plus Wire Rim and Rolled Rim varieties. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $4.9K to $5.9K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 33.4 grams, 34 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9141.
