About This Coin

The 1903 Philippine Twenty Centavos is a United States cent from the Philippines Twenty Centavos 1903-1945 series — the first year of the series. In 1903, coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint with a combined mintage of 150,000. This represents the lowest annual mintage in the entire series, below the series median of 450,000. The obverse features a female figure standing beside an anvil and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. A notable auction result reached $12K in MS66 grade at Heritage Auctions. Designed by Melecio Figueroa.
