About This Coin
The 1903 Philippine Peso is a United States peso from the Philippines Peso 1903-1945 series — the first year of the series. In 1903, coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint. The obverse features a female figure standing beside an anvil, holding a hammer and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, with a reeded edge. A notable auction result reached $26K in MS66 grade at Heritage Auctions. Designed by Melicio Figueroa.
