Description

The 1902 Morgan Dollar is a dollar produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Morgan Dollars 1878-1921 series. With a mintage of 8.0 million, this is a less common issue β€” ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 44% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, encircled by stars and the reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a wreath. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $87 to $655 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7278.
