1902-P VAM-24
ErrorDescription
Rickey Bailey discovered VAM-24 of the 1902-P Morgan dollar in 2011. Classified III2 14 C4a and designated Doubled Profile, Near Date, this variety comes from die pair (189). The obverse exhibits clear doubling from the forward hair edge down to the chin, creating a doubled profile that serves as the primary pickup point. The date sits at the right edge, positioned further left than normal. A short diagonal die scratch at the lower hair curl provides an additional obverse die marker for confirmation. The reverse carries a C4a die with very slightly doubled UNITED STATES lettering. The 1902 Philadelphia Morgan dollar is among the final years of the series before the hiatus in production, and doubled-profile varieties like VAM-24 are sought by specialists for their strong visual doubling on Liberty's facial features. Die pair (189) places this variety within the established emission framework for the issue.
