Description
Discovery 2015 - Algot Stephenson (as a VAM-1C). Discovery December 2024, Matthew Kawczynski. VAM-1C incorporated into the VAM-16 listing Feb. 2025. 16 III2 15 • C3a (Quadrupled Date) (?) Obverse III2 15 - All digits in date doubled to quadrupled. 1 quadrupled below flag and at top right of base. 89 tripled at top inside of upper loop. 7 doubled on bottom edge of crossbar. ''Die Markers'' - Strong die polishing lines through letters of LIBERTY, horizontal gouge at junction of jaw and neck through hair near bottom of D-shaped void. Reverse C3a - ''Die Markers'' - Lines in wing-neck gap, in wreath bow, and on upper tail feathers near eagle's right foot. DPIS - RH3/B45RE Comments: # Exact same die pair as the 1897-P VAM-1C (now delisted). # The Quadrupling of the date gets obliterated soon after the die commenced producing so only very EDS examples will show the quadrupling. # Late die state examples will have some fairly extensive die cracking on the reverse (this is what the VAM-1C was listed for).
