Description
Farm, orchard and mineral displays were the heart of the 1894 Midwinter Exposition, and many new kinds of fruit and grain made their first public showing there. Lauer's HK-265 accordingly pictures the Agriculture Building, labeled "Agriculture / Building" below the hall and topped by the fair's shortened name with San Francisco and the date. Lauer signed it near the edge at lower left, and a beaded border surrounds the scene. The obverse, a modified state seal, is the one used on the whole Lauer group, HK-262 through HK-267. On the five-building medal HK-260 the same hall appears as the Palace of Horticulture and Agriculture. The piece is aluminum, 35 mm across, and was sold as a souvenir of the San Francisco fair.
