Description
Ground was broken for the Midwinter Exposition on August 24, 1893, and some six months later more than a hundred buildings stood in Golden Gate Park. HK-249 gives a view of them from the obverse, with the Bonet Electric Tower in the foreground, framed by a beaded circle under "California Midwinter International Exposition" and over "San Francisco 1894." The reverse uses a modified state seal with the stars and the word Eureka left out, a sun and rays at right and a building in the left background; "Hanson Chi." is lettered below the bear, and a wreath-like circle and beaded border enclose the scene. The medal is aluminum, 38 mm, the metal of many of the fair's souvenirs, a number of which were struck in the Mechanics Building on the grounds.
