Description

A bear on a crag at upper left looks down over the exposition grounds on the obverse of HK-259, with "Midwinter / Fair" above and 1894 on a ribbon below. The reverse is a small lecture on its own metal: "Aluminum" across the center, six slanting words above it (malleable, ductile, tasteless, sonorous, untarnishable, strong), and below a comparison of a cubic foot of gold at 1204 pounds with a cubic foot of aluminum at 179, ending "This is the Lightest Metal the World Has Produced." A microscopic "Noble Chicago" sits underneath. Hibler and Kappen file it with the aluminum pieces they head as new metal dollars; HK-259 is aluminum, 45 mm. HK-258 has the same reverse with the Administration Building, and HK-259a, in bronze, pairs the Administration Building with the bear on the crag.
