Description
HK-253 joins two sides used elsewhere in the Midwinter series: the Mechanics Art Building from the reverse of HK-251 and the wreathed "Aluminum Souvenir" text from the reverse of HK-252. On one side the building stands within a circle, with "Souvenir" above and "of the Sun-Set City" below; on the other an open wreath tied with ribbon encloses lines saying the piece was stamped in the Mechanics Building in San Francisco. Neither side carries a date, so the year 1894 comes from the fair, the California Midwinter Exposition held in Golden Gate Park that winter and spring. Its emphasis was on farm, orchard and mineral exhibits, and many new kinds of fruit and grain were shown there for the first time. Aluminum, 38 mm.
