Description
San Francisco's Golden Gate appears on the reverse of HK-250, named above the view with "San Francisco, Cal." below, all inside a circular border. The obverse turns to the exposition itself: a view of the grounds with a tower in the distance, circled by "California Midwinter International Exposition" and "San Francisco 1894" within a plain border. The Midwinter fair occupied about 200 acres cleared at the center of Golden Gate Park and was timed for the winter months on purpose, to show off California's mild climate while the eastern states were at their coldest. This piece is aluminum and 38 mm across; Hibler and Kappen also list a gilt version, HK-250a.
