1891-S VAM-30
Error
Description
Discovered in September 2025 by Brent Fogelberg, the 1891-S Morgan Dollar VAM-30 is a recently cataloged variety classified as III2 21, C3p (Far Slanted Date), die pair unconfirmed. The obverse shows the date set right of normal position, slanted slightly upward. Obverse die markers include two strong parallel die scratches in the rear hair curl below the middle of the lower cap edge, along with polishing lines in the ear and LIBERTY. The reverse carries a centered, upright S mintmark, with die marker lines in the wing-neck gap and wreath bow. DPIS is B34/C5. The far slanted date positioning, with its rightward offset and upward tilt, provides the most immediately identifiable diagnostic feature. As a 2025 discovery, VAM-30 represents a recent expansion of the documented 1891-S die marriage catalog.
