Error
Description
Brian Raines discovered VAM-29A in October 2009, with revisions completed in 2015. The classification is III2 1 · C3e, cataloged as entry 189 — Doubled Left Reverse, Clashed Obverse G. On the obverse (III2 1), clash damage from an unplanchetted strike transferred the G from IN GOD WE TRUST to Liberty's neck area, visible as a faint partial letter impression. The reverse (C3e) shows widely spaced vertical die clash lines rising from the top of the eagle's right wing, positioned alongside the n and G of the legend on later clash states; early clash states display only the clash line at the G. The 1890-P Morgan Dollar is a Philadelphia Mint 90% silver issue. Clashed obverse G varieties occupy a specialized collecting category within the VAM series, as the transferred letter must be confirmed against Liberty's anatomy with care to exclude post-mint damage.
