=1883-P VAM-2 Dash Under 8= Discovered by A. George Mallis, June 1965. Revised 2013 2 (revised) III2 2 ∙ C3a (Low Dash Under 8) (193) Obverse III2 2 – Short dash well below the right 8. ''Die marker'' - Series of horizontal die scratches at top outside of ear and below lower cotton leaf. Reverse C3a – Normal die DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # There are many VAMS known with the mysterious dash below the second 8. According to Jeff Oxman, the dash is a leftover date alignment mark not completely polished off the die. # 1883-P VAM-2 obverse is the LDS of the 1883-P VAM-16 obverse. # 1883-P VAM-2 reverse marker is the cracks by left lower star and O in ONE, and the crack by Eagles left wing and A in AMERICA these are not the same as 1883-P VAM-16.
