The 1882 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-1685 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Design Reform Patterns (1880-1942) series. It is like J-1680 to J-1683 but has finer dentils on both sides, and Pollock gives it a diameter of 21 mm against 22 mm for those. USPatterns.com confirms only two in copper. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1887, Adams-Woodin 1668 and Taxay EP1227. Cataloged as PCGS #62090.
