Description
The 1882 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-1680 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Design Reform Patterns (1880-1942) series. It is one of the designs that led to the 1883 Liberty nickel, and its reverse adds E PLURIBUS UNUM over the wreath. About two dozen are known in nickel, including examples in the ANA Museum, the American Numismatic Society, the Durham Museum and the Smithsonian. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1882, Adams-Woodin 1669 and Taxay EP1221. Cataloged as PCGS #62085.
