The 1879 Proof Four Dollar Pattern - J-1641, Stella Coiled Hair is a proof four-dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. This is George T. Morgan's Coiled Hair Stella; the gold strikes (J-1638, 14 confirmed by USPatterns.com) have their own page in the Stella Four Dollars series. The single white metal example was shown in William Woodin's 1914 exhibit at the American Numismatic Society. It is struck in white metal with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1841, Adams-Woodin 1581 and Taxay EP1187. Cataloged as PCGS #62019.
