Description
The 1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1541 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. This is Anthony C. Paquet's only 1877 half dollar design. Roger Burdette found a Mint record of March 20, 1877 recording that Paquet had handed the Coiner a pair of half dollar dies to be turned down to fit the presses, so the design was ready early in the year. Six or seven are known in copper, all from the cracked obverse die. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1712, Adams-Woodin 1530 and Taxay EP1050. Cataloged as PCGS #61883.
