Description
The 1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1505 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. The obverse is George T. Morgan's Liberty head, long thought to be modeled on Anna Williams. Morgan cut four obverse dies and six reverses for the 1877 half dollar patterns. Two are known in copper, both from the first obverse die (Pollock-1667); no copper example comes from the second die. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1667, Adams-Woodin 1509 and Taxay EP1036. Cataloged as PCGS #61840.
