1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1537
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
The 1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1537 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. The obverse is William Barber's capped Liberty, perhaps made to compete with Morgan's design; a die scratch runs from the rim to Liberty just left of the I of IN. USPatterns.com regards the silver listing as discredited; the pedigree Judd gave it belongs to J-1538. Judd lists it in silver with a reeded edge. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1705 and Taxay EP1056. Cataloged as PCGS #61878.
