Description
The 1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1534a is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. The obverse is a William Barber Liberty head whose die shows the 8 of the date cut over a 1, the date having first been started too far to the right. The reverse shows a standing eagle holding a shield. The single known example is light in weight. It is struck in silver with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1701 and Taxay EP1047. Cataloged as PCGS #61875.
