Description

The 1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1522 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. The obverse is George T. Morgan's Liberty head, long thought to be modeled on Anna Williams. Morgan cut four obverse dies and six reverses for the 1877 half dollar patterns. The first Morgan obverse is paired with the seven-sided shield reverse; two are known. It is struck in silver with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8.
