Description
The 1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1521 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. The obverse is George T. Morgan's Liberty head, long thought to be modeled on Anna Williams. Morgan cut four obverse dies and six reverses for the 1877 half dollar patterns. The first Morgan obverse is paired with an eagle-on-shield reverse; three or four are known in copper. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1685, Adams-Woodin 1528 and Taxay EP1071. Cataloged as PCGS #61859.
