Description

The 1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1520 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. The obverse is George T. Morgan's Liberty head, long thought to be modeled on Anna Williams. Morgan cut four obverse dies and six reverses for the 1877 half dollar patterns. The first Morgan obverse is paired with an eagle-on-shield reverse; the single known example is the Garrett coin. It is struck in silver with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1684 and Taxay EP1070. Cataloged as PCGS #61858.
