Description
The 1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1519 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. The obverse is George T. Morgan's Liberty head, long thought to be modeled on Anna Williams. Morgan cut four obverse dies and six reverses for the 1877 half dollar patterns. The first Morgan obverse is paired with an eagle-on-shield reverse. Three are known in copper, and the Garrett example has been silver-plated. NGC's census also lists a silver-plated example of this Judd number. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1683, Adams-Woodin 1526 and Taxay EP1073. Cataloged as PCGS #61857.
