Description
The 1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1517 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. The obverse is George T. Morgan's Liberty head, long thought to be modeled on Anna Williams. Morgan cut four obverse dies and six reverses for the 1877 half dollar patterns. The first Morgan obverse is paired with an eagle-on-tablet reverse; at least nine are known in copper. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1681, Adams-Woodin 1525 and Taxay EP1067. Cataloged as PCGS #61855.
