Description

The 1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1516 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. The obverse is George T. Morgan's Liberty head, long thought to be modeled on Anna Williams. Morgan cut four obverse dies and six reverses for the 1877 half dollar patterns. The first Morgan obverse is paired with an eagle-on-tablet reverse; six are known, and many are weakly struck in the centers. It is struck in silver with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1680, Adams-Woodin 1524 and Taxay EP1066. Cataloged as PCGS #61854.
