Description

The 1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1510 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. The obverse is George T. Morgan's Liberty head, long thought to be modeled on Anna Williams. Morgan cut four obverse dies and six reverses for the 1877 half dollar patterns. The layout of E PLURIBUS UNUM follows Morgan's 1877 eagle pattern (J-1545), Morgan's initial M is on the neck, and R. W. Julian dates it after June 1877. Five are known in silver, one in the Smithsonian. It is struck in silver with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1674, Adams-Woodin 1512 and Taxay EP1038. Cataloged as PCGS #61848.
