Description
The 1877 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1507 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. The obverse is George T. Morgan's Liberty head, long thought to be modeled on Anna Williams. Morgan cut four obverse dies and six reverses for the 1877 half dollar patterns. Its reverse shows a seven-sided shield. Two are known in copper, both from the first obverse die (Pollock-1669); the Pollock-1661 listing for the other die does not exist. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1669 and Taxay EP1075. Cataloged as PCGS #61842.
